ACA or CTA Qualified Corporate Tax Manager required for a top 10 Practice based in Southampton. You will be Working in a 30-strong tax team who offer not only outstanding levels of expertise in areas ranging from international planning to inheritance issues, but also experience across all sectors and types of business. These include: personal tax planning, corporate tax planning, shareholder and owner issues, VAT consulting, specialist taxation areas, including; business valuations, expatriates, transfer pricing, employee share incentives and employee benefits planning.
The Southampton office is also the Regional Centre of Excellence for Research and Development Tax Credits.
Your role will be to take responsibility for taxation aspects of the firm`s corporate clients. This will involve developing professional relationships with clients and supervising juniors and new semi-seniors. You will assist Partners with technical advice, and prepare technical matter for review by a Partner or Director.
To be considered for this post all applicants should be ACA or CTA Qualified with experience in taxation.
The successful applicant will:
Deal with corporate compliance matters with regard to the submission and agreement of tax computations to the Inland Revenue;
Assist with tax planning exercises;
Provide a quick response to clients to ensure that clients` needs are met;
As far as possible, develop relationships with clients;
Attend meetings with clients and third parties.
Write to clients and to the Inland Revenue on basic and complex tax issues;
Ensure that clients are satisfied with all the tax services provided and that their
needs are monitored regularly.
Managers report to and take instructions from a Partner or Director. They should
liaise with other members of staff including those involved in audit work, and should
assist trainees and new seniors with technical matters.
A Manager should have passed CTA or else have an ACA qualification with a tax
Technical Knowledge to be attained at this Level
Have sufficient tax experience;
Handle the tax affairs of groups of companies, including consideration of the tax
treatment of inter-company transactions and preparing group relief
Prepare tax clearances on relevant transactions, and deal with correspondence
Prepare cases to tax counsel on complex technical matters;
Deal with correspondence from clients and the Inland Revenue where difficult
technical or factual situations are involved;
Deal with Commissioners` Meetings of simple delay cases by ensuring adjournments
are made or, if necessary, by attending;
Liaise with specialist tax advisers as situations arise including VAT, IHT, Stamp duty;
Identify tax planning opportunities or pitfalls from file reviews or from information
communicated through technical meetings, internal memoranda or professional press
Look out for and develop specialist knowledge when opportunities arise from
experience gained on client problems;
Read and keep up to date on technical literature, to obtain a good understanding of
tax law, case law and tax saving schemes, and to develop an understanding of

Supervise and motivate Trainees and seniors and conduct detailed reviews of
subordinates` work and appraise them;
Contribute to a positive climate in the group;
Conduct meetings with clients;
Take responsibility for billing and for the control of costs on the client portfolio;
Present tax matters to others and contribute to the development of new initiatives.
